OASIS

Based in Melbourne, Australia, we are a bunch of individuals with a common interest in deafness. As an informal group we have a vibrant online community, which complements our regular face-to-face gatherings.

Most of us wear hearing aids, a few have cochlear implants, and a significant proportion of us also sign to some extent. Some would say that OASIS should stand for “Oral and Signing Interacting Socially”, whereas others are happy with the simple “OASIS” imagery.

Our goal is to develop a community/social network which is welcoming to all, and in particular to people who have not had any involvement with deaf/hearing impaired people before.
